Afrikindness is proud to announce its membership in Keeping Children Safe (KCS), a globally recognised organisation that sets International Child Safeguarding Standards to help protect children from abuse. This partnership reinforces Afrikindness’ ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children, particularly in Black and minority ethnic communities across Africa and the UK.

As an organisation working closely with children and families, safeguarding is central to Afrikindness’ mission. Through awareness campaigns, training, and community engagement, Afrikindness empowers parents, faith leaders, and educators to identify and prevent safeguarding concerns. In 2024, the organisation launched the Community Empowerment Programme, embedding safeguarding at its core by equipping communities with essential knowledge and tools to create safer environments for children.

Through this programme, 30 community leaders were trained in 2024, and Afrikindness co-created a culturally adapted Safeguarding Training Pack tailored to Faith and African communities. As part of this initiative, two community leaders, Adejoke Oyedele and Lola Olaniyi-Alabi, have successfully delivered the adapted safeguarding training in Leeds communities. They will continue to represent Afrikindness as Safeguarding Training Ambassadors. In 2025, Afrikindness is expanding its training reach to other regions, including Bradford, Bristol, and across the UK and Africa, ensuring more communities have access to culturally relevant safeguarding education.

Over the next year, Afrikindness aims to train hundreds of families and young people, offer intervention support, and reinforce its role as a trusted advocate for child safeguarding. The organisation is also committed to bridging cultural and language barriers that often hinder safeguarding in minority ethnic communities, ensuring that every child grows up in a secure and nurturing environment.

This partnership with KCS marks a significant milestone in Afrikindness’ journey to strengthen safeguarding practices, empower communities, and advocate for child protection at a global level.
