Why Explore Afrikindness Research?

At Afrikindness, our research is rooted in the lived experiences of the communities we serve. We take a community-led, people-centred approach – ensuring that the voices, challenges, and realities of diverse families directly shape the questions we ask and the solutions we develop. Our work focuses on addressing racial and mental health inequalities, particularly within underrepresented communities where gaps in research, access, and support persist.

We don’t just study issues – we amplify voices, uncover hidden barriers, and translate insights into meaningful action that supports children, parents, educators, and services.

What Makes Our Research Different?
  • Community-Driven: Co-produced with families and communities, ensuring authenticity, trust, and real-world relevance.
  • Equity-Focused: Addressing racial disparities, mental health inequalities, neurodiversity, and systemic barriers in education and healthcare.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Working alongside organisations such as the NHS and other partners to identify research gaps, improve service delivery, and influence inclusive practices.
  • Addressing Underrepresentation: Actively centring Black and minority ethnic communities whose experiences are often missing or overlooked in mainstream research.

Action-Oriented: Designed to go beyond insight—informing policy, shaping services, and driving tangible change.
