On November 28th, 2024 – Afrikindness, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to promoting kindness and building positive racial identity among children from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds, is honoured to receive the Highly Commended distinction in the prestigious Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2024, hosted by Zurich Insurance in partnership with the Z Zurich Foundation.
Out of over 300 entries from charitable organizations across the UK, Afrikindness stood out for its impactful work in fostering positive self-identity, particularly among children, through culturally relevant education and community engagement. The panel of judges commended Afrikindness for its innovation, sustainability, and potential for scalability, recognizing its pivotal role in addressing the unique challenges faced by minority groups.
Lisa Walsh, Volunteer & Partnership Manager at Zurich Community Trust, highlighted Afrikindness’ achievements, stating:
“AFRIKINDNESS supports parents and schools to help children build a positive sense of racial identity. Their targeted approach underscores the value of cultural identity and demonstrates how community engagement and education can foster inclusivity and belonging.”
The award ceremony, held virtually on November 28, 2024, celebrated the impactful contributions of organizations driving diversity and inclusion across communities. Afrikindness received a £1000 grant to further its mission of empowering children, families, and communities with tools to combat racial discrimination, promote inclusion, and develop cultural pride.
