MONTHLY PEP TALK - Mindfulness for Parent
July 2026
CONNECT. LIVE. THRIVE
At Afrikindness, we believe that empowered parents build thriving families. Each month, we host a Parent Pep Talk for our parent community, creating a safe and supportive space to learn, share experiences, and gain practical guidance on the challenges families face today.
Alongside these sessions, our Parent Empowerment Lead, Adwina Smith develops a series of helpful parenting tips and resources that address key issues affecting parents, providing practical strategies, encouragement, and support.
Whether you’re navigating parenting challenges, supporting your child’s wellbeing, or simply looking to connect with other parents, you’re welcome to join us.
Not yet part of our parent community? We’d love to welcome you.

Summary of July Talk
Topic :- Mindfulness for Parent
Speaker:- Bamike Sawyerr, Mindfulness Coach
What mindfulness is – and what it isn’t. We discussed that mindfulness isn’t about emptying your mind or being perfectly calm; it’s about paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and kindness.
We discussed:-
- The benefits of mindfulness, including reducing stress and overthinking, improving focus, supporting emotional wellbeing, strengthening relationships and helping us enjoy everyday moments more.
- How often we live on “autopilot” and how becoming more aware of our thoughts and feelings can help us respond rather than simply react.
- Practical mindfulness tools that parents can use, including the Body Scan, the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise, the Three-Step Breathing Space and the 10 Finger Appreciation exercise.
- Ways to bring mindfulness into everyday parenting
