Afrikindness is proud to launch Unfiltered: Black Teen Voices UK, a powerful new youth-led podcast series creating space for honest, balanced, and engaging conversations with Black teenagers across the UK.

Hosted by Dr Terrence Isaacs, Afrikindness Teen Mentor and Mental Health Lead, the podcast explores what it means to be Black in the UK today — from identity and school experiences to culture, belonging, stereotypes, pride, and lived realities.

At the heart of the podcast is the Afrikindness youth-led research project, Race, Racism & Education, developed in partnership with York St John University and Liverpool Hope University, and funded by the Institute for Social Justice. The research explores racial identity formation and how it shapes the educational experiences of young people of African heritage in the North of England. 40 young people in West Yorkshire participated in the research project.

Through Unfiltered, young people not only share personal stories and reflections, but also discuss their experiences carrying out research, interviewing peers, asking important questions, and exploring themes around race, identity, and belonging.

This is more than a podcast — it is a platform for youth voice, storytelling, learning, and empowerment.

Podcast Series Topics

  • Series 1: Identity, Blackness & Pride
  • Series 2: Race, Racism & Education Research Project
  • Series 3: Cultural Expectations, Societal Influence & Experiences

Why This Matters

Many Black young people navigate questions around identity, belonging, representation, and culture within schools and wider society. Unfiltered creates a safe and empowering platform where young people can speak openly, challenge misconceptions, celebrate their heritage, and shape conversations that affect them.

The project reflects Afrikindness’ ongoing commitment to fostering positive racial identity development, youth leadership, inclusion, and community dialogue.
