Afrikindness, alongside community partners including Migrant Action Leeds and the Migrant Democracy Project, took part in a national mass lobby at the UK Parliament calling on MPs to defend and extend the right to vote.

Representing Afrikindness and migrant communities in Leeds, Community Engagement Officer Kemi Oseni joined voices from across the country to advocate for fair and inclusive democratic participation. The lobby comes at a critical time, as the Representation of the People Bill is under review, determining who is eligible to vote in UK elections.

Campaigners highlighted that millions of residents risk being excluded from voting due to nationality, while ongoing discussions around the Elections Bill have raised concerns about potential restrictions, including the removal of Commonwealth voting rights.

An amendment calling for votes for all residents has now been tabled, and campaigners are urging MPs to support and sign it. The right to vote remains a fundamental tool for holding decision-makers accountable and ensuring all communities have a voice in shaping policies that affect their lives.

Afrikindness reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for equity, inclusion, and representation, particularly for underrepresented and migrant communities.
