May 2026
Afrikindness, through its flagship initiative Africa Awareness Week, is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 Teen Writing Competition, themed “Hidden Figures: The Untold Stories of Black Women & Men in History.”
Launched in October 2025 and culminating in December, the competition engaged young people aged 10–16 from schools and communities, encouraging them to research, reflect, and creatively tell the stories of lesser-known Black historical figures.
The initiative combined research, storytelling, and public engagement, with entries published online for global audiences to read and vote. The top 20 entries progressed to final judging, where winners were selected based on originality, depth of research, creativity, and impact.
Celebrating Young Voices and Powerful Stories
The 2025 winners showcased exceptional talent, bringing to life inspiring stories of courage, leadership, and resilience. Their essays highlight the importance of uncovering hidden narratives and ensuring that diverse histories are recognised and celebrated.
The full showcase of winning entries is now live, inviting readers to explore the powerful voices of young writers and discover untold stories that continue to shape our world.
