Afrikindness is delighted to celebrate the successful completion of its three-week Mindfulness and Mental Health Programme, designed to support the emotional wellbeing, confidence and resilience of young people.

The programme facilitated by Bamike Sawyerr, a mindfulness coach & Afrikindness Trustee, brought together children and young people from across the community in a safe and supportive environment where they could learn practical tools to manage stress, improve self-awareness and develop positive mental wellbeing habits.

Delivered over three weeks, the sessions explored a range of topics including mindfulness, emotional regulation, self-care, resilience, positive thinking and understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Young people were encouraged to reflect on their experiences through journaling, group discussions and interactive activities, while learning techniques they can use in their everyday lives.

Participants practised breathing exercises, grounding techniques and mindfulness activities designed to help them manage anxiety, improve focus and build emotional resilience. The

programme also created opportunities for peer connection, helping young people realise they are not alone in the challenges they face.

Many of the young people shared that the sessions helped them better understand their emotions, feel more confident expressing themselves and develop practical strategies for managing difficult situations both at school and at home.

Bunmi Owolabi, CEO of Afrikindness, said:

“The wellbeing of our young people is at the heart of everything we do. These sessions provided more than information; they created a space where young people could pause, reflect, connect and develop skills that will support them long after the programme has ended. We are incredibly proud of every participant who engaged so openly throughout the three weeks.”

The programme was made possible through funding from the Asda Foundation, whose support enabled Afrikindness to provide specialist-led workshops, wellbeing resources and accessible spaces for young people to learn and grow.
