Leeds, UK – 2 May 2026
Afrikindness is proud to announce that it has secured a significant capital grant to enhance its digital inclusion programme, enabling more individuals and families to access vital digital tools, resources, and skills.
Through this funding, Afrikindness has purchased 15 laptops with essential accessories, alongside a LapCabby 32-vertical device mobile charging trolley. This investment strengthens the organisation’s capacity to support people experiencing digital exclusion by providing access to technology and practical learning opportunities within a supportive community environment.
The funding has enabled Afrikindness to expand its digital inclusion work, particularly within the LS7 community, where the current cohort of learners is already making positive progress.
The 10-week training programme, which commenced in April, is currently in its sixth week. Participants have successfully completed sessions covering foundational digital skills and are now progressing to the nationally recognised Learn My Way resources developed by the Good Things Foundation.
These resources will further support learners to build confidence in using digital devices, accessing online services, communicating safely online, and developing skills that can support everyday life, education, and employment opportunities.
As part of the programme’s development, Afrikindness has appointed Agla Fadeel as its Community Digital Coach. In this role, she will provide hands-on support to participants in a language they understand, helping them overcome digital barriers, build confidence, and apply their learning in practical ways. Her day-to-day guidance will ensure that learners receive personalised support tailored to their individual needs and digital goals.
The programme is being delivered at the Reginald Centre in Chapel town and is designed to support individuals from having little or no digital skills to developing a strong foundation in digital competence. Sessions focus on essential digital skills, online safety, digital awareness, and practical applications that enable participants to engage confidently in an increasingly digital society.
The current cohort is being facilitated by Afrikindness’ dedicated digital inclusion team — Amrjit Matharu, Agla Fadeel, Vivian Agbi and Bunmi Owolabi — who bring a wealth of experience, cultural understanding, and a community-centred approach to supporting learners.
Afrikindness extends its sincere gratitude to Leeds City Council and gives special thanks to the leadership of 100% Digital Leeds for their continued support and commitment to tackling digital inequalities across the city.
This funding represents an important step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that more families, particularly those from underrepresented communities, have the opportunity to develop the digital skills and confidence needed to access services, connect with others, and thrive in a digital world.
Digital training with dignity and respect — no language barriers, no complexities. We work with all parents.
