Afrikindness, an award-winning charity supporting children, young people, and families, continues to expand its work within faith communities across Bradford and Leeds—delivering culturally responsive training and practical support to empower both leaders and parents.
Neurodiversity in Faith Communities
Recently, Dr Vivian Okoye, Afrikindness Neurodiversity Lead delivered a focused training session for church workers at the Annual Teachers Training at Chapel of His Glory, Bradford on Neurodiversity in Faith Communities.
The session created a safe and reflective space to explore how faith settings can better understand and support neurodivergent individuals and families.
The training covered key areas including:
- Understanding neurodiversity within a cultural and faith context
- Recognising and addressing bias and cultural misconceptions
- Exploring how stigma can impact help-seeking behaviours
- Identifying available support pathways for families
- Practical strategies for creating inclusive and welcoming church environments
This work is particularly important as faith communities often serve as trusted spaces for families. Equipping church leaders with the right knowledge and tools helps ensure that neurodivergent individuals are not only welcomed, but truly understood and supported.
Parenting with Purpose Session
In addition to this, Bunmi Owolabi, CEO of Afrikindness, delivered a Confident Parenting talk at the Royal Daughters Conference Church in Bradford.
The session focused on equipping parents with practical tools, building confidence, and creating open conversations around raising children in today’s complex world.
