Leeds, UK — A powerful and reflective parent session was recently held at RCCG Power Connections Church Leeds, bringing together a room filled with incredible women to explore the transformative theme of “Give to Gain.”

The session was led by Bunmi Owolabi, CEO of Afrikindness, who delivered a deeply personal and thought-provoking reflection on the meaning of giving in the context of parenting, leadership, and community.

Hosted by a vibrant church community led by Pastor Ralph & Foluke Ibiyeye, who are deeply committed to building lives and strengthening families, the event created a safe and empowering space for women to reflect on their journeys and the role of giving in shaping their lives and the lives of those around them.

Exploring the Power of Giving

During the session, Bunmi Owolabi unpacked the theme of giving through three key lenses:

  • Giving from Pain
She shared how many parents give from places of hurt, fear, or past experiences, often without realising it. Drawing from her personal journey, she emphasised the importance of healing, noting that while pain can be a starting point, transformation comes when it is released and redirected into purpose.
  • Giving Transactionally vs. Giving from Alignment
The session explored how giving with expectations of return can lead to disappointment and resentment—whether in volunteering, relationships, or family life. Participants were encouraged to move away from “transactional giving” towards giving that is aligned with identity, values, and purpose.
  • Giving as a Seed for Harvest
Anchored in faith and scripture, the reflection highlighted that true giving often requires release and sacrifice, but ultimately leads to growth and harvest—sometimes in unexpected but deeply meaningful ways.

A Space for Reflection and Growth

The session was described as both inspiring and transformative, with attendees engaging in honest conversations about identity, parenting, and the realities of giving in everyday life.

Bunmi Owolabi noted:
“When we understand who we are and give from that place of identity, our giving becomes powerful, purposeful, and life-changing—not just for others, but for ourselves.”

The event reinforced the importance of community spaces where women can reflect, heal, and grow together, particularly in areas of parenting and leadership.
