Leeds, 14th March 2026
Afrikindness is proud to announce the successful completion of its first cohort of the Parenting with Purpose – 6-Week Training Programme, delivered as part of the Reducing Parental Conflict Programme funded by the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Launched to strengthen families and support positive parenting outcomes, the programme brought together 12 parents in a powerful journey of learning, reflection, and growth. Rooted in Afrikindness’ Family Intervention Service, the training was designed to equip parents with practical tools to build safe, nurturing, and emotionally responsive home environments.
Across the six weeks, parents engaged in structured sessions covering:
- Building healthy Parental relationships
- Child development and understanding behaviour
- Emotional regulation for both parent and child
- Positive and safe discipline approaches
- Conflict resolution within the home – Parental Conflict
The sessions were delivered by experienced trainer Adwina Smith, Afrikindness Parent Empowerment Lead, who guided parents through a supportive and interactive learning experience, fostering openness, shared learning, and confidence-building.
The programme concluded with a celebratory final session, where parents were recognised for their commitment and active participation. Certificates were presented to honour their dedication to strengthening their parenting capacity and creating positive change within their families.
Parent Testimonial:
“This programme has changed how I see my child and myself as a parent. I feel more confident, more patient, and better equipped to handle challenges without fear or frustration.”
About the Reducing Parental Conflict Project
The Parenting with Purpose training is one of several key deliverables under Afrikindness’ wider project funded through the DWP’s Reducing Parental Conflict Programme. This initiative aims to improve outcomes for children by supporting healthier relationships within families and reducing conflict in the home.
In addition to the parenting programme, Afrikindness is delivering:
- Culturally Responsive Safeguarding in Hard-to-Reach Communities
- Development of a Community “Relationship Leader / Ambassador” Role
- Targeted Parental Interventions and Case Studies
A key outcome of this project is the development of shared learning around professional care and engagement with families who are often underserved.
Insights gathered will help highlight:
- What works in building trust within communities
- Where systems may unintentionally exclude families
- How culturally responsive safeguarding approaches can prevent escalation and improve family outcomes.
Afrikindness will publish a full evaluation report upon completion of the project, contributing valuable learning to practitioners, policymakers, and community organisations.
What’s Next?
Following the success of the first cohort, Afrikindness is now opening registrations for the next 6-week Parenting with Purpose programme. Parents and carers interested in building stronger, healthier family relationships are encouraged to take part.
“When we strengthen a parent, we strengthen a child—and when we strengthen families, we build stronger communities.”
