To mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Afrikindness hosted a powerful and timely webinar titled “From Intent to Impact: Removing Barriers to Neuro-Inclusive Engagement.” The session brought together over 120 participants from across four continents, including representatives from local authorities, government, education, businesses, and the voluntary sector.
The webinar created an engaging and reflective space, with active participation and thoughtful questions from attendees throughout. It focused on moving beyond awareness to explore how organisations can take practical, meaningful steps toward inclusion.
Key areas of discussion included:
- Why neurodivergent individuals from underrepresented communities are less likely to access support
- The impact of cultural stigma, bias, and misconceptions on engagement
- Challenges around disclosure, trust, and psychological safety in workplaces and schools
- Disproportionate responses and misinterpretation within education systems
- The importance of culturally responsive communication and practice
- Practical approaches to embedding neuro-inclusive systems across organisations
The session highlighted a clear message: inclusion must go beyond policy—it must be experienced in practice. For organisations, businesses, schools, and local authorities, this requires intentional action, reflective leadership, and a commitment to understanding the diverse realities of the communities they serve.
To continue the conversation, Afrikindness has published a reflective article on neuro-inclusion on LinkedIn, expanding on the key themes explored during the webinar.
Afrikindness remains committed to supporting organisations to build inclusive, culturally responsive systems that work in real life—not just in theory.
If your organisation, school, or local authority is interested in delivering culturally appropriate neurodiversity training or engagement sessions, we would love to work with you.
In addition, Afrikindness is currently co-creating a Cultural Communication Toolkit for Neurodiverse Learners, and is inviting teachers and education professionals to get involved in shaping practical tools for real classroom settings.
