Bristol, UK – On 1st March, faith leaders, parents, and community members gathered at Winners Chapel International, Bristol, for Afrikindness’ first safeguarding training in faith communities. The event saw over 50 participants and 26 children engage in discussions on safeguarding, child protection, and identifying risks within faith-based environments.
The session began with a welcome address from Pastor Abayomi Omotayo, followed by training from Bunmi Owolabi, CEO of Afrikindness, and Safeguarding trainer, Lola Olaniyi-Alabi. The training featured interactive group discussions, real-life case studies, and knowledge-sharing among leaders from Winners Chapel International, RCCG, and other churches across Bristol and Plymouth.
Keynote speakers Councillor Louis Martin and Councillor Al Al-Maghrabi emphasized the shared responsibility of safeguarding children and commended Afrikindness for equipping faith leaders and parents with essential knowledge. Councillor Martin highlighted the importance of child safety, while Councillor Al Al-Maghrabi praised the commitment of participants in fostering safer communities.
Participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, with parents and faith leaders expressing a stronger understanding of safeguarding responsibilities. A parent noted that the training was “enlightening and empowering”, while a church leader emphasized the practical steps gained for implementation within their community.
Afrikindness extends its gratitude to all speakers, faith leaders, and attendees for their commitment to child safety. This milestone event marks the beginning of expanded safeguarding initiatives across diverse faith and diverse communities in Bristol and beyond.
