Afrikindness Youth Mentoring Programme

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not. Our Youth Mentoring Programme exists to bridge that gap and supports young people aged 16–18 to develop clarity, confidence and real-world readiness as they transition into adulthood.

Programme Aims

The programme aims to:

  • Help young people identify their strengths and interests
  • Provide direction during a critical life stage (16–18)
  • Increase access to professional networks and opportunities
  • Equip young people with practical life and employability skills
  • Strengthen confidence and self-belief
  • Support smooth transition into university, apprenticeships, employment or entrepreneurship

We focus on preparation for adulthood — not just academic performance.

What the Programme Offers

We provide structured one-to-one mentoring that helps young people:

  • Explore career and education pathways
  • Build confidence and communication skills
  • Develop professional behaviour and accountability
  • Strengthen decision-making skills
  • Build a positive digital presence (including LinkedIn)
  • Access networks and role models
  • Gain exposure to real-world opportunities and develop leadership potential

Our mentoring is youth-led and future-focused, while operating within strong safeguarding structures.

Young people lead the conversation. Mentors guide the direction.

Duration

  • Cohort-based programme
  • Structured mentoring over a 1-year fixed period.
  • Regular one-to-one sessions (frequency agreed at the start)
  • Monitored and supported by Afrikindness

Places are limited to ensure quality and safeguarding oversight.

Why Mentoring Young People Matters Today

Young people today face unique challenges:

  • Increased competition for university and employment opportunities
  • Overexposure to social media but limited professional guidance
  • Lack of access to professional networks
  • Uncertainty about career pathways
  • Pressure to “choose early” without exposure to options
  • Confidence gaps despite academic ability
  • Limited understanding of workplace expectations
  • Rising mental health pressures linked to performance and comparison

Many young people have talent — but not guidance.
Mentoring bridges that gap.

What makes this project different?

Our Approach: The F.A.S.T Method

We use the F.A.S.T Method to help young people move from potential to progress:

F – Focus
Helping young people clarify strengths, interests and direction.

A – Access
Connecting them to professionals, networks and opportunities.

S – Skills
Building communication, confidence, professionalism and accountability.

T – Trajectory
Creating a clear, achievable path forward.

We focus on the few activities that make the biggest difference — because preparation for life goes beyond exam results.
