The Colours of Africa Art Competition, held as part of Africa Awareness Week, celebrated the creativity, talent, and cultural understanding of students across England.
Enfield County School for Girls stood out with three exceptional winners, showcasing the power of art in capturing the vibrancy and resilience of African culture.
Winners and Their Masterpieces
Sathini Siriwardena and Beren Karacam
winners of the 1st position, whose masterpiece showcased the strength and resilience of Africa. Their work conveyed a powerful message of pride and identity, challenging stereotypes and celebrating the personalities that define the continent.
Saima Abdullahi and Christabel Adjeh
In 2nd place, Saima Abdullahi and Christabel Adjeh impressed with a stunning depiction of African patterns and designs, skilfully incorporating cultural motifs such as the smock and Kente cloth to reflect the vibrancy of African traditions.
Zephaniah Givens
The 3rd place went to Zephaniah Givens, whose artwork beautifully captured the heart of Africa through vivid depictions of its food, animals, music, and traditions, celebrating the continent’s diversity and richness.
Celebrating Creativity and Cultural Awareness
The awards were presented by Sukwinder Bassi, Chair of Trustees, who praised Enfield County School for Girls for fostering creativity and encouraging students to explore and express their understanding of cultural diversity.
In her remark, Maleeha Arther, Afrikindness’ Education Project Lead, said,
“Sathini, Beren, Saima, Christabel, and Zephaniah, your exceptional artwork speaks volumes about your creativity and your ability to connect with deeper themes. Through your talent, you’ve beautifully celebrated Africa’s heritage while sending a message of unity and pride that transcends borders.”
Awards and Recognition
The winners received:
- Secondary School Colours of Africa Art Excellence Trophy for the school.
- Cultural Ambassador recognition for the winning students.
- Certificates of Achievement for all participating students.
- Cash Prizes for the winning students.
Celebrating Diversity and Global Citizenship
Through this competition, we saw how the power of art can foster understanding, encourage self-expression, and help students reclaim their narratives. The works displayed here reflect a deep connection to the themes of African heritage, identity, and inclusion, creating a vibrant and diverse tapestry of perspectives.
