In celebration of Mother’s Day, the Afrikindness Parenting team joined the vibrant community at RCCG Power Connections Church in Leeds, UK, for an impactful event that resonated with the organization’s mission of intentional and purposeful parenting. The event, attended by parents, church members, and community leaders, provided a unique platform to discuss the significance of parenting with purpose and equipping parents with the right tools and resources.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Pastor Ralph Ibiyeye, the esteemed Pastor and Church Leader at RCCG Power Connections Church. Pastor Ralph, in his insightful talks, emphasized the crucial role of intentional parenting and the need for parents to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and resources to support their children and young people effectively.

The Afrikindness Parenting team, as part of their ongoing campaign awareness on “Parenting with Purpose,” actively engaged with attendees, sharing valuable insights and practical tips on how parents can foster a nurturing and intentional approach to parenting. The campaign focuses on empowering parents to understand the importance of their role in shaping the lives of their children and the positive impact intentional parenting can have on their overall well-being.

Pastor (Mrs) Foluke Ibiyeye, affectionately referred to as ‘Intentional Mama,’ delivered a powerful message emphasizing the importance of intentionality in parenting. Her words resonated with the audience, reinforcing the value of mindful and purpose-driven parenting in shaping the future of children and young people.

Representing Afrikindness at the gathering were Bunmi Owolabi, CEO; Doriana Harris, Corporate Partnership Manager; and Ronke Olojede, Community Liaison Manager. They seized the opportunity to share more information about the upcoming parent training, scheduled to commence in March.

About Afrikindness Parenting with Purpose Training The parent training holds immense significance, offering parents a comprehensive understanding of intentional parenting. Participants will gain insights into effective

communication strategies, setting healthy boundaries, fostering a positive environment at home, and addressing the unique needs of each child. Participants will also have trainings on mental health and self-care.

There will be discussions focused on social services as well. The training aims to equip parents with practical tools that promote the overall well-being and success of their children.

Bunmi Owolabi, CEO Afrikindness, expressed the significance of today, stating, “Our mission at Afrikindness Parenting is to encourage intentional parenting, and it was heartening to see the alignment of our values with the teachings and emphasis of ‘’Intentional Mama’’, Pastor (Mrs) Foluke Ibiyeye. We believe that equipping parents with the right knowledge and tools is fundamental to nurturing healthy, resilient, and purpose-driven individuals.”

The talks and discussions during the event covered various aspects of intentional parenting, including the importance of communication, setting boundaries, fostering a positive environment, and understanding the unique needs of each child. Attendees were actively involved in the conversation, sharing their experiences and gaining valuable insights from both the church leadership and the Afrikindness Parenting team.

Adding a creative touch to the event, the church’s drama team presented a compelling performance centred around the theme of self-care for parents. This underscored the importance of parents prioritizing their well-being to effectively support and nurture their children.

During the event, a video about the training was played, providing a sneak peek into the invaluable content it offers. Bunmi Owolabi delivered a compelling introduction to Afrikindness, concluding with a thought-provoking quote: “Never beg for a seat when you can build your own table.”

This powerful statement underscores the importance of self-reliance, resilience, and confidence in children. It encourages parents to empower their children to own their skills, be assertive, and make their voices heard. Bunmi Owolabi reinforced the idea that parents play a pivotal role in combatting racial bullying in schools by supporting children irrespective of their colour or race, fostering an environment where every child can thrive.

The response was overwhelming, with a significant number of participants registering for the parent training and campaign awareness set to kick off in March.

As part of the Mother’s Day celebration, the event served as a platform to honour and appreciate the vital role of mothers and parents in shaping the next generation. The emphasis on intentional parenting echoed throughout the church, creating a sense of unity and purpose among the community members.
